This week’s journal

DirectionsOn a separate sheet of paper answer the following questions in complete sentences.

1. Why is it important that Jesus can feed the large crowd that came to listen to him speak.

2. Why does Jesus ask Philip “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?”

3. Why did the people want to make Jesus their King? What was their mistake?

4. Jesus walks to his disciples on the water.  Why is Jesus’ ability to walk on water important?  What does He teach his disciples by walking on the water?

5. Why does Jesus criticize the people who came looking for Him? What was their mistake? What does Jesus tell them to do instead?

6. What is the “work of God” according to Jesus? Why is this what God requires?

7. According to Jesus, where does the bread that gives life to the world come from?  How do we get this bread?

8. Why do the Jews listening to Jesus “grumble at His teaching: “I am the bread that came down from heaven”?

9. What is the difference between the manna in the wilderness and the bread that Jesus provides?

10.  Jesus said, “For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

Many disciples left Jesus after this teaching. Why is it difficult to accept?  Is it still difficult?
