Spanish 1: Week of March 9-13, 2020

Spanish 1 meets on Tuesday and Thursday this week.

Tuesday, 3/10:

  1. TB pp. 114-115. Collect final draft of UNICEF answers, according to requirements as discussed in detail in class.
  2. Review HW assignment: Core Practice pp. 49 & 50. (food vocabulary)
  3. Cultural Notes: (Absent? Please get notes!)
    • Los refrescos (differences in soft drinks in US and Hispanic world)
      • ¿Qué es una horchata?
    • Las comidas (differences in el desayuno in Spain and rural areas)
      • ¿Qué es gallo pinto de Costa Rica?
  4. Continue in TB with listening and reading exercises
    • p. 125, listening exercises #1-2 (pantomime eating & “Breakfast or Lunch?”)
    • pp. 126-127: Introduce and read through Videohistoria
      • close attention to blue bold-printed words (vocab!)
      • Impressions of American sized meals and actual sizes
      • Average breakfast in Costa Rica?
  5. Period 1: Viewed Videohistoria.
  6. Periods 3 & 4: Notes on MLA heading and format for hand-written assignments. Notes will be added to the  “announcements.”
  7. Homework: Videohistoria questions, TB p. 127 #3 (1-6). Assgined in all SP 1 classes. Will be collected in Periods  3 & 4 on Thursday, 3/11.
    • MLA heading and format for hand-written assignments was discussed in periods 3 & 4.
    • Adhere to this format for this homework assignment, and all assignments if asked to follow MLA format.
    • Read each statement and determine if it is cierto (true) or falso (false).
    • If true, copy the statement after writing Cierto.
    • If false, rewrite the statement after writing Falso.
    • Skip a line after each complete statement.

Thursday, 3/12: Due to school closure, ONLY period 1 had class.

Period 1 ONLY:

  1. MLA guidelines for hand-written assignments. Absent? See MLA guidelines on our class page under announcements.
  2. Review responses of Videohistoria TB p. 127 #3 (1-6)-written in binder.
  3. TB p. 128 # 4: Continue with food topic.
    • In a Venn diagram, and based on TB picture, write a list of breakfast items, lunch items, and items for both.
    • verbal sharing and more vocab practice
  4. No homework assigned at the end of class, other than to prepare for vocab quiz. Stay tuned for more information.
