B. BIO, 3A: WK 10/28-11/01

We are completing end-of-quarter grades/tests for the Q’s end. Please see your teacher with any questions. Your teacher will review your finalized term grade with you this week.

We will begin CH 8.1, LIFE IS CELLULAR PP 242-247. We will begin with the case study on P 241, What’s Happening to Me? We will read and discuss the case study; then, extend discussion into small group activity focused on mitochondrial diseases. Students will use chrome books to research and reporton the diseases in class.

Our Agenda for the WK:
MON: Read 8.1. Complete vocabulary(6) and key questions (2). Read and discuss case study. Begin research on mitochondrial diseases.

WED: Continue research and report back to class on findings: disease, symptoms, identification(tests), treatment, prognosis, implications for the future. This is an informal discussion; however, you should have research and sources documented in you NTBK to corroborate findings. We will watch a short video on Cell Theory and identify timeline for discovery to include key scientists and their input. PPT notes will be reviewed.

FRI: Using microscopes/video input students will explore how images can vary in quality and information content. They will investigate the advantages and limitations of different microscopes.

As follow up.. students will use chrome books to access suggested teacher sources to obtain information on cell types within the human body. students will research 2 types. They will write a paragraph to compares the two types of cells emphasizing differences and explaining how structural differences correspond to the different functions of the body. This is designed to improve science literacy/applications. It will also serve as a lead in to differentiating between prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
