Weeks of September 3rd – 13th
Our objectives for chapter one will include the following:
- The Diversity of Life – Explain how parts of the biosphere interact to maintain life
- Biology, Society, and You – describe how biology affects five areas of life: food, clothing, shelter, health, and fuel
- Characteristics of Life – summarize the characteristics that are common to all organisms
- Study Living Things – summarize the levels of organization in living systems from the simplest to the most complex – list some of the areas of study within biology
- Nature of Science – identify the sources of uncertainty in a science and the limitations of science – suggest reasons for a non scientist to be educated in science
- Science Skills and Methods – describe how a scientist develops a hypothesis – design an experiment with an experimental setup and control group
- Tools of Biology – describe how microscopes and computers have influenced the field of biology – determine the functions of each part of a light microscope
- Techniques in Biology – list and discuss some of the techniques that are used in biology
- Learning prefixes and suffixes related to the field of biology
