TWIC – 9/23-27/2019

Monday/Tuesday:  Review definition of literature and apply to various pieces, including memes. Create and complete the “Categories of Literature” Chart. Get a copy of the notes from someone in your class who takes good notes if you were absent.

Homework: Find and print a CATHOLIC SCHOOL APPROPRIATE meme that you think qualifies as literature based on our working definition. Explain, in writing, on the same sheet how the meme fulfills each aspect of the definition. Please cite your meme by simply copying and pasting the URL you got it from at the bottom of the page.

Wednesday/Thursday: Complete the “Categories of Literature” if we haven’t already done so. Introduction to Native American mythology:

  • define the following: oral tradition, myth, creation myth, origin myth, archetype, pantheism, totem
  • differentiate between the following types of creation myths: Ex Nihilo, emergence, creation from chaos, earth-diver, world parent
  • Read pages 10-13 & 20-25 in the textbook.

Friday/Monday: Identify myth elements in the myths on pages 27-32 and 34-37.  Introduction of “Create your own myth” project. See class documents for details.
