Health and Wellness Week of February 17th – 21st

Monday, February 17th – No School

Tuesday, February 18th B Day Health Students

Lecture:

  • Review the blood pathway through the heart utilizing all terms noted in class (trace a drop of blood)
  • Discuss the electrical system of the heart
    • Pacemaker
  • Discuss Blood Pressure
    • learn the terms systole and diastole
    • What is hypertension?  What are causes in hypertension?
    • Discuss what a stroke is and how they are treated
  • Discuss Heart Disease
    • What is CHF, Clogged Arteries
    • How can exercise and good nutrition help in prevent heart disease as a teenager?

Classwork: 

  • Work on heart coloring sheets
  • Work in groups on pathway quiz

 Open Notebook Quiz on the Heart

  Class will be divided into first half review on Cardiovascular System for Test / Second half will begin a new chapter on digestion

     Lecture: The Digestive System

  • Discuss with students the purpose of the digestive system
  • Discuss the differences between organs in the alimentary canal and the accessory digestive organs
  • List and define the major processes occurring during digestive system activity
  • Begin discussion of the basic function of each organ involved in the digestive system – begin with the mouth
    • lips
    • teeth (basic structure of a tooth)
    • tongue
    • salivary glands
