The educational philosophy at Notre Dame High School stresses the belief that all students should strive to reach their full potential. It is our goal and responsibility to ensure that our graduates leave NDHS prepared for their next steps, whether that be college, the workforce or something else. We aim to provide an education that challenges without overwhelming, allowing our students to be well-rounded and also develop spiritually, socially and emotionally. After their faith formation, their academic development is our first priority.
Students complete 4 years of English and Theology and 3 years of Math, Science and Social Studies. Students round out these core classes with a foreign language, health and PE in addition to elective classes during junior and senior years. Highly motivated and qualified students may choose from a variety of AP courses and online classes to supplement our offerings.
Notre Dame follows a modified A/B block schedule. In a traditional block schedule, students complete entire courses during a semester instead of throughout an entire year. In our schedule, students have their core classes all year long but they meet every other day for approximately 75 minutes. This type of schedule allows for longer class discussions and lab time. In addition, it helps prepare students for the format of a college schedule and students strengthen their time management skills. A sample schedule is as follows:
A Day | B Day | |
Period 1 | American Literature | Algebra 2 |
Period 2 | Drivers Ed | Theology |
Crusader Time | Crusader Time | |
Period 3 | Biology | Health |
Period 4 | World Cultures | Italian 2 |
