My name is Nicholas Konish, I am a senior here at Notre Dame and I am running for the student of the year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Some of you know me and some of you don’t, but I am pretty positive that no one knows the reason behind me doing this fundraising campaign for the LLS. Of course it’s about helping to raise money for research and raise awareness for Leukemia and Lymphoma, and of course it’s because I want to help people. But the real reason is that I am a survivor of childhood cancer. When I was 3 years old I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and I was on chemotherapy for 3 years and 2 months. I beat this terrible disease and am now 17 years old and considered cured. I would not be alive today if it was not for foundations like The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society who fund cutting-edge research and help so many kids like myself go through their treatment.
I am here today because of people who raised money for the LLS just like I am doing today. I was given a second chance at life at a very young age so I intend to make that chance count and give back and help kids and their families who are going through what I and my family went through. Please consider donating to my campaign for this very important cause.
