Forensics Week of March 2nd – 6th

Monday, March 2 – A Day

Tuesday, March 3 – B Day

  • Lecture:
    • Brief discussion on Blood-Spatter Patterns
      • history of blood spatter analysis
      • blood spatter pattern analysis
      • directionality of blood
      • bloodstain patterns
      • area of convergence
      • angle of impact calculations
      •   blood velocity and spatter size
  • Lab 1 – Blood Spatter Analysis: Effect of Height on Blood Drops
    • students will compare and contrast the blood spatter produced at various  heights with regard to size, shape and number of satellites
    • students will be able to distinguish between the parent drop and satellites
    • students will analyze their results from the experiment and prepare a summary of the effect of height on blood spatter-stains

Wednesday, March 4 – A Day

Thursday, March 5 – B Day

  • Complete Q & A from Lab 1 on Tuesday
  • Lab 2 – Area of Convergence / Blood Droplet Impact Angle
    • students will be able to distinguish between passive blood spatter and blood spatter that was produced by some type of force
    • students will be able to determine the forward direction of the bloodstain based on it’s shape
    • students will create blood spatter patterns from different angles of impact
    • students will examine the relationship between angle of impact and blood-spatter patterns
    • students will calculate the angle of impact from blood-spatter patterns

Friday, March 6 – A Day
