Honoring Service and Sacrifice: Veteran’s Mass & Veteran of the Year Nomination
At Notre Dame High School, we proudly uphold a tradition of faith, service, and gratitude. Each year, our school community gathers in solemn reverence for the Veteran’s Mass – a powerful tribute to the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This meaningful event embodies our enduring commitment to honoring those who have protected our freedoms with courage and sacrifice.
Above the Best: The Patrick Mullins Memorial Scholarship
As part of our annual commemoration, we are honored to present the “Above the Best” Patrick Mullins Memorial Scholarship to a deserving student.
Patrick Mullins, a proud member of the Class of 1964, lost his life in a helicopter crash during a heroic mission in the Vietnam War. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his extraordinary valor. His twin brother, Michael Mullins – also a Vietnam veteran and member of the Class of 1964 – will present the award in his memory.
This scholarship stands as a tribute not only to Patrick’s sacrifice but also to the enduring legacy of service that lives on in our community. If you would like to make a donation, please email Jacque Flynn at – Director of Development
Veteran’s Mass
Held each November, the Veteran’s Mass is a sacred and unifying celebration that brings together students, faculty, families, alumni, and local veterans. During this liturgy, we offer heartfelt prayers of thanksgiving and remembrance – honoring all who have served, as well as those currently in uniform.
Following the Mass, a community reception gives students the invaluable opportunity to connect with veterans, listen to their stories, and learn firsthand about the realities of military service. If you would like more information about this Mass, please email .
Veteran of the Year Nomination
Each year, Notre Dame recognizes a Veteran of the Year – an individual whose life exemplifies the values of honor, courage, and service.
This distinguished honoree is celebrated during the Veteran’s Mass for their exemplary military service and lasting contributions to their community. Nominees may include alumni, student relatives, or local veterans who have demonstrated exceptional dedication both in and out of uniform.
We invite students, faculty, alumni, and community members to submit nominations as a way to reflect on the ideals we hold dear – and to honor those who inspire by example.
